Idol Chartwatch, April 20: Kelly Moves Up, Jason Castro Signs a Deal, and More

Nothing new from American Idol on the charts this week, but we do have news about Season 7’s Jason Castro. Kelly Clarkson’s album is still going strong and another Idol reenters the Billboard 200. Read on for more.
There’s good news this week for Season 7’s Jason Castro. The dreadlocked singer/songwriter has signed a deal with Atlantic Records and is working on his debut CD. The album, which will be released later this year, will be produced by Grammy Award-winning producer John Fields (Lifehouse, Switchfoot, Soul Asylum).
Jason’s album will include songs by Kara DioGuardi (Kelly Clarkson, Jewel, Santana, and current American Idol judge), Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall), Sacha Skarbek (James Blunt, Jason Mraz), Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams), and Jason Reeves (Colbie Caillat).
Kelly Clarkson’s fourth CD, All I Ever Wanted , moves up two spots to #12 on the Billboard 200. The album is #19 on Top Digital Albums and #16 on Hot Internet Albums.
Kellie Pickler got a nice post-Idol appearance bump, reentering the Billboard 200 at #114 and moving up nine spots to #24 on Top Country Albums. Her single, “Best Days of Your Life,” enters the Hot 100 at #50.
Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride also had a good week, moving from #34 to #16 on the Billboard 200. It remains #5 on Top Country Albums.
