If you’ve been missing the Idol Top 10 compilation CDs, you’re in luck. There’s a Season 8 version and it will be released next week. Read on for the track listing and all the Idol chart news.
At the end of the first five seasons of American Idol, 19 Entertainment released a compilation CD featuring a song from each of the Top 10 plus the winner’s coronation song. For whatever reason, this tradition was discontinued for Seasons 6 and 7, and the only music fans could buy were downloads from iTunes.
Well, the traditional compilation CD is back this year and will be released June 30. Kris and Adam each have two tracks, including both of their versions of “No Boundaries,” and the rest of the Top 10 gets one song each.
Here’s the track listing:
1. Kris Allen - “No Boundaries”
2. Danny Gokey - “Stand By Me”
3. Allison Iraheta - “I Can’t Make You Love Me”
4. Matt Giraud - “Human Nature”
5. Adam Lambert - “Mad World”
6. Kris Allen - “She Works Hard for the Money”
7. Lil Rounds - “I Surrender”
8. Scott MacIntyre - “Just The Way You Are”
9. Michael Sarver - “You Are Not Alone”
10. Megan Corkrey - “Walkin’ After Midnight”
11. Anoop Desai - “Always On My Mind”
12. Adam Lambert - “No Boundaries”
The album will be sold exclusively at Wal-mart.
Both Kris and Adam have begun working on their debut albums. Billboard reports that Kris has been writing with Joe King of the Fray, David Hodges (Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry), Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse) and Claude Kelly (Akon, Leona Lewis). Adam has been working with RedOne, Lady Gaga’s producer, as well as David Hodges and Kara DioGuardi.
And there’s more Adam news. Hi Fi Recordings is releasing On With the Show, an album of songwriter demos Adam was hired to sing several years ago. The album is expected to drop mid-summer and a single, “Want,” is expected out shortly. Basically, Adam was paid to record the songs, these people had them in their archives, and are now releasing them to capitalize on Adam’s fame. Will he even make any money on this venture?
Idol Albums on the Charts
With the new compilation album on the horizon, Adam Lambert’s “greatest hits” of the season collection drops off the charts this week, lasting just one week longer than Kris’ collection did. It will be interesting to see if the compilation CD has any impact on the charts.
Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride is the top charting Idol-related album this week, sitting at #53 on the Billboard 200 and #13 on Top Country Albums. Kelly Clarkson’s All I Ever Wanted drops nine spots to #56 on the Billboard 200 and David Cook also drops nine spots to #72 on the same chart. David’s album also appears on Top Rock Albums (30).

Rounding out the Billboard 200, Ruben Studdard’s Love Is is #188. The album also appears on Top Independent Albums (38) and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums (33).
Jennifer Hudson falls off the Billboard 200 and drops from #35 to #51 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Mandisa’s Freedom is #23 on Top Christian Albums and #25 on Top Christian and Gospel Albums and LaKisha Jones’ So Glad I’m Me drops from #78 to #91 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
