Idol Chartwatch, June 15: Kris and Adam Hang in There for One More Week
by Donna Reynolds
-- 06/15/2009
Kris Allen and Adam Lambert remained on the charts for another week, but where did they end up? And what about all the otherAmerican Idol alumni from seasons past – for example, who is new to the charts this week? Read on for more.
Let’s start out with albums this week because a new American Idol-related album makes its debut on this week’s charts. Rock Of Ages: Original Broadway Cast Recording featuring Constantine Maroulis, enters the Billboard 200 at #193. It’s #24 on Top Independent Albums and #4 on Top Cast Albums – we don’t see too many Idol-related albums on that one, do we!
The other album news of note is who’s not on the charts this week. Adam Lambert’s “greatest hits” of the season collection held onto a spot on the Billboard 200, albeit at #182 it is 130 spots lower than last week. Kris’ collection, however, has dropped off the charts altogether. Adam’s album is #24 on Top Independent Albums.
Kelly Clarkson’s All I Ever Wanted drops four spots to #45 on the Billboard 200, and Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride drops two spots to #47. Carrie’s album is up one to #14 on Top Country Albums.
David Cook is #63 on the Billboard 200 and #24 on Top Rock Albums. Kellie Pickler is up two spots to #81 on the Billboard 200 and is #19 on Top Country Albums.
Daughtry is down from #78 to #97 on the Billboard 200, and charts at #35 on Top Rock Albums and #10 on Top Hard Rock Albums. In its third week of release, Ruben Studdard’s Love Is is hanging in there, coming in at #148 on the Billboard 200, #20 on Top Independent Albums, and #25 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Jennifer Hudson is down 31 spots to #167 on the Billboard 200, but up 7 spots to #35 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Elliott Yamin’s Fight for Love is #40 on Top Independent Albums and Mandisa’s Freedom is #17 on Top Christian Albums and #20 on Top Christian and Gospel Albums.
Brothers of the Southland, featuring Bo Bice, was released last week, so we’ll see if it makes an impact on next week’s charts. Bo does a great job on “Can’t You See,” one of the tracks on the album.
Idol-related singles
After eight weeks on the charts, Kelly Clarkson’s “I Do Not Hook Up” has hopped over “My Life Would Suck Without You,” breaking into the Top 20 of the Hot 100 at #20. “My Life Would Suck Without You” drops three spots to #27.
Daughtry’s “No Surprise” is also starting to catch on, moving up seven spots to #51 on the Hot 100. It enters Hot 100 Airplay at #64. Not such good news for David Cook’s “Permanent,” which drops off the charts this week.
Kris Allen’s “No Boundaries” goes from being last week’s highest charting Idol single to #64 on the Hot 100, a 32-spot drop. Adam’s “Mad World” drops an astounding 56 spots to #100. Doesn’t look as though either of these singles will have much longevity on the charts.
