After an explosion of new American Idol releases on last week’s charts, things have settled down and we are left with Season 8 singles that should have some staying power. Which ones are they? Will Kris Allen once again beat Adam Lambert? And how are the older Idols doing? Read on for more.
Last week’s chart was jam-packed with new music from Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, and a couple of other Season 8 alumni but, as expected, sales have leveled off and we are left with a few tunes from Kris and Adam that will most likely stick around for a while.
Kris Allen’s “No Boundaries” charts the highest of all the Idol singles on the Hot 100, coming in at #23 – down 12 spots from last week. The song is #32 on the Pop 100, #26 on Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, and #8 on both Hot Digital Tracks and Hot Digital Songs.
Kris’ “Heartless” is #33 on the Hot 100, #37 on the Pop 100, #10 on Hot Digital Tracks, and #11 on Hot Digital Songs. His “Ain’t No Sunshine” is #94 on the Hot 100 and #68 on Hot Digital Songs.
Adam’s “Mad World” is #44 on the Hot 100, #44 on the Pop 100, #20 on Hot Digital Tracks, and #21 on Hot Digital Songs. Adam’s version of “No Boundaries” is #95 on the Hot 100 and #69 on Hot Digital Songs.
As for their “greatest hits” albums, Adam did significantly better this week than Kris. Season 8 Favorite Performances, Adam Lambert is down 19 spots to #52 on the Billboard 200, while Kris’ collection drops 75 spots to #125. Adam is #6 on Top Independent Albums and #5 on Top Digital Albums. Kris is #16 on Top Independent Albums and #21 on Top Digital Albums.
What does all this mean? Probably not a whole lot at this stage of the game, but it could be, and I say this very hesitantly, an indication of how their first post-Idol albums will sell down the road. Certainly, a runner-up outselling the winner is not unprecedented. I don’t think the margins will be quite this dramatic, however, but it is interesting.
One more observation and then I’ll move on. Neither Kris or Adam had any significant airplay for any of their songs this week.
Idol Albums on the Charts
Kelly Clarkson’s All I Ever Wanted remains the top charting Idol album this week, dropping just one spot to #41 on the Billboard 200. Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride is down one spot to #45 on the Billboard 200 and four spots to #15 on Top Country Albums.
David Cook is #46 on the Billboard 200 and #13 on Top Rock Albums. After 132 weeks on the charts, Daughtry is still going strong and moves up this week on four charts. It’s up 11 spots to #78 on the Billboard 200, and four spots to #25 on Top Rock Albums. The album is #20 on Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums and #7 on Top Hard Rock Albums.
Kellie Pickler is up again this week, moving from #91 to #83 on the Billboard 200. The albums remains at #17 on Top Country Albums for the third week in a row.
Ruben Studdard’s Love Is drops from #36 to #101 on the Billboard 200, and is #13 on Top Independent Albums and #21 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Jennifer Hudson is down one to #136 on the Billboard 200 and is #42 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.
Elliott Yamin’s Fight for Love is down 20 spots to #154 on the Billboard 200 and is #22 on Top Independent Albums. David Archuleta is up 11 spots to #183 on the Billboard 200.
Season 6’s Lakisha Jones’ So Glad I’m Me is #67 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Mandisa’s Freedom is #23 on Top Christian Albums and #28 on Top Christian and Gospel Albums.
