by Donna Reynolds -- 02/16/2009
It seems we’ve been in somewhat of a drought as far as new American Idol music is concerned, but no more! This week, several new singles debuted on the charts along with one new album. Read on to find out who ended up where!

We’ve been celebrating Kelly Clarkson’s new single, “My Life Would Suck Without You,” for several weeks, and while it drops a bit this week, it’s still doing very well. But along with Kelly’s song, several new singles debut on this week’s charts.

First for the new singles. Jennifer Hudson’s stirring rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” makes its debut at #98 on the Pop 100. The song probably won’t get much airplay, but digital download sales were respectable. All proceeds from the song will go to the Hudson-King Foundation.

It was a good week for Taylor Hicks, who along with the six other Idol winners, were honored at last week’s opening of the American Idol Experience at Disneyworld. The first single from his upcoming album, “What's Right Is Right,” debuts at #25 on Adult Contemporary Tracks.

“My Life Would Suck Without You” drops three spots to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, but is up two to #17 on Hot 100 Airplay. It’s down four to #8 on the Pop 100, but up two to #10 on the Pop 100 Airplay list. The single moves up from #11 to #9 on Mainstream Top 40 and from #10 to #8 on Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks. It’s #2 on both digital charts. Kelly’s album, All I Ever Wanted, is due out March 10.

Rascal Flatt’s “Here Comes Goodbye,” a song co-written by Chris Sligh, is also moving up the charts and shows up on a couple of new and significant charts this week. This week, the song moves up five spots to #20 on Hot Country Songs, and debuts at #73 on Hot 100 Airplay and #19 on Bubbling Under Hot 100. This is a good sign that this single will become a crossover hit for the band and Chris.

Carrie Underwood’s new single, “I Told You So,” debuts at #69 on Hot 100 Airplay and moves up from #141 to #1 on Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles.
