American Idol 8 Contestants to Watch – Pre-Hollywood Summary

by David Bloomberg -- 02/03/2009
As we approach Hollywood, there are some contestants who will obviously not advance – such as Nick Mitchell (aka Norman Gentle, right). But what about the others? David has been looking at each contestant we’ve seen throughout the past three weeks. Now it’s time to summarize and maybe reconsider one or two placements.

Over the past three weeks, I’ve been evaluating American Idol auditioners and trying to predict how far they will get in the process. Now I’ve looked back and have a summary for you. But it’s not just a summary of what I’ve said so far – it’s also a bit of a revised look now that we have all three weeks under our belts.

I’ve done my best to avoid spoilers, but I know there is at least one list out there that purports to provide the semi-finalists, and I accidentally stumbled upon stories that listed two names that are different from what I predicted. However, I will not change my predictions based on those – besides, we don’t really know if they are accurate anyway. Here are the three possible categories, listed in the order in which we saw them:

Won’t make it through Hollywood:

  • J.B. Ahfua
  • Michael Sarver
  • Katrina Darrell (aka Bikini Girl)
  • Brianna Quijada
  • Deanna Brown
  • Ashley Anderson
  • Casey Carlson
  • Michael Castro
  • Matt Breitzke
  • Jamar Rogers
  • Tatiana Del Toro
  • Jesús Valenzula
  • Joshua Ulloa
  • Sharon Wilbur
  • Julissa Veloz
  • Frankie Jordan
  • Megan Corkrey
  • Austin Sisneros
  • Melinda Camille
  • Nick Mitchell (aka Norman Gentle)
  • Monique Garcia Torres

Semi-Finals but not Finals:

  • Arianna Afsar
  • Stevie Wright
  • Cody Sheldon
  • Alex Wagner-Trugman (maybe)
  • Von Smith
  • Jessica Furney (maybe)
  • India Morrison (maybe)
  • Asa Barnes
  • Brent Keith Smith
  • Matt Giraud (maybe)
  • Jasmine Murray (maybe)
  • T.K. Hash
  • Taylor Vaifanua
  • Jorge Nuñez
  • Patricia Lewis Roman (maybe)

Finals:

  • Emily Wynne-Hughes
  • Scott MacIntyre
  • Daniel Gokey (maybe)
  • Anoop Desai
  • Lil Rounds
  • Adam Lambert (maybe)
  • Kai Kalama (maybe)
  • Joanna Pacitti (Want a preview? You can get her previous album)
  • Alexis Grace
  • Leneshe Young
  • Anne Marie Boskovich (maybe)
  • David Osmond
  • Rose Flack
  • Jackie Tohn (maybe)

Perceptive readers will immediately note a problem – there will only be 12 finalists, but I have 14 listed. And that doesn’t even consider that we will meet new potential finalists in the Hollywood rounds. So out of the “maybe”s, I would say Adam Lambert and Daniel Gokey are the least likely to make it, with Jackie Tohn close behind.

How will this all shake out? We’ll see in the coming couple of weeks!
