It’s a big week for David Archuleta fans as his debut is released on Tuesday. But another Idol from Season 7 has made his debut on the charts, and who it is may surprise you. Read on for more.
David Archuleta fans are gearing up for the release of his first album this week, and while it’s too soon to predict where he will end up on the charts, judging from the popularity of his single, “Crush,” and the large promotional push behind the album, he should do very well.
Archuleta is up against some stiff competition, though, with new releases from Christina Aguilera, Taylor Swift, T-Pain, and Hillary Duff also hitting the racks. In addition, a new CD from the “Now” series is also being released this week. Two Idols are featured on the new disc – Jordin Sparks with “One Step at a Time” and Daughtry’s “What About Now.”
One new Idol release hit the charts this week. Josiah Leming’s EP, Angels Undercover,, made its debut at #26 on the Top Heatseekers chart. This chart is reserved for new artists who have never appeared in the top 100 of The Billboard 200. The five-track EP is a preview of Leming’s full-length CD due out in January.
Seven new releases debuted in the Billboard 200 top ten this week, and as a result, Jennifer Hudson slips from #9 to #14 despite a 10 percent increase in sales. The album holds at #3 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Other Idol albums also slipped. Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride drops from #37 to #49 on the Billboard 200, and from #7 to #8 on Top Country Albums.
Kellie Pickler drops from #59 to #78 on the Billboard 200. The album drops from #13 to #16 on Top Country Albums.
Daughtry moves from #81 to #102 on the Billboard 200. The album is #25 on Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums, and #19 on Top Hard Rock Albums.
In its 54th week, Jordin Sparks drops 15 spots to #146 on the Billboard 200.
Kristy Lee Cook's Why Wait drops off the Top Country Albums chart. Bucky Covington is back up one, moving from #54 to #53 on the country listing.
Mandisa's True Beauty is #54 on the Top Christian and Gospel Albums chart, and #44 on Top Christian Albums.
Idol Singles
David Archuleta’s second single, “Angel,” debuts at #89 on the Hot 100, while “Crush” remains steady on all fronts! The only other new addition to this week’s chart is the debut of Jennifer Hudson’s “Spotlight” at #54 on the Pop 100 Airplay Chart. The single remains #1 on Hot Adult R&B Airplay.
David Cook’s “Light On” does not seem to be taking hold, at least not yet. In its fourth week on the charts, the single slips 20 spots to #80 on the Hot 100.
And, while no one was paying attention, Bucky Covington’s “I’ll Walk” nudged up ten spots to #70 on the Hot 100!
