American Idol 7: Which Idol Will Fall Sixth?

by David Bloomberg & Jenn Brasler -- 04/15/2008
In an unpredictable season, David and Jenn are back to try to make some predictions. Why is it so difficult this season? And does that mean somebody named David (right) could be in any danger at all? Let’s see what they have to say.

Jenn and I are back again this week to once again incorrectly predict who will leave on American Idol this week. Wait – did I type that out loud? Dangit. I guess it’s just an example of honesty in journalism. In any case, we will try to predict the outcome correctly this time. Wish us luck.

As usual, when David is speaking, the text is in boldface. When it’s Jenn, it’s normal type.

Last week, most of us were surprised (though we should not have been “shocked”) to see Michael Johns leave. Will it be another surprise this week?

Frankly, at this point, I’d be surprised to see almost anybody go home – which I guess means I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised to see anyone in particular go home… unless his name is “David,” that is. This really is a good group of contestants, overall.

Yes, I’d say they’re “good” for the most part, but they’re just not very consistent. That’s why it’s so hard to make predictions. No matter how poorly Michael performed last week, I would have expected someone else to perform worse. That’s how it’s been all season. But you’re right, these singers are talented, and each of them has a good chance of being the standout performer any given week. And I agree – the Davids are safe for a long time. Ryan doesn’t really even need to include them when he gives out the results.

My belief that the Davids are safe eliminates two of the remaining seven from bottom three contention. I think after the reception Jason got last week (despite the fact that I was among those who just didn’t get it), he’s safe as well. That leaves Kristy Lee, Syesha, Brooke, and Carly.

I don’t think Kristy Lee will avoid the bottom three again this week. She had a good performance (especially for her) last week, but two in a row? I doubt it. Carly was in serious danger last week and I think will be again this week. And I’m also going to say Brooke will join them in the bottom three, just because I have a feeling Syesha will be safe in Mariah week.

I agree with you completely. Now that country has passed Kristy Lee by and she’s going to have to do other types of songs, she’s going to be much more vulnerable. And we know from every week before last that her fans just don’t have the power to keep her out of the bottom three.

Carly, too, seems to be slipping, and it doesn’t look like she has a very powerful fan base either. She’s been one of the more consistent performers, but that hasn’t helped her. Plus, this week the singers are performing songs by Mariah Carey, and I just don’t see Carly doing well with that theme. Her voice isn’t going to be able to save her anymore. Since that leaves just Brooke and Syesha, and Syesha has a better chance of turning out a good Mariah performance. I’ll say that Brooke will once again be in the bottom three.

Out of the three I believe are in danger – Carly, Kristy Lee, and Brooke – who will go home? While I’d love to predict Kristy Lee, that hasn’t really worked out for me in past weeks. I think this week it will be Carly. While she has her fans, I just don’t think she has enough of them.

Yep, I have to predict Carly’s elimination as well. In fact, after last week’s performance episode, I thought she might be the one to go home. (Darn you, slacking Michael Johns fans!) We’re coming down to the wire, and though Carly has the voice to be a star, she hasn’t stood out enough on Idol to make people really remember her.

So Jenn and I are in complete agreement on who will leave and which other contestants will join her in the bottom three. That means we’re almost certainly wrong. But hey, we’ve got to give it a shot. We’ll find out Wednesday night!
