American Idol 7: Which Idol Will Fall Fourth?by David Bloomberg & Jenn Brasler -- 04/01/2008
View Printable version of this article Sting7 is away for a little while longer, so we once again welcome Jenn Brasler as our special guest predictor. As usual, though, David’s thoughts will be in boldface, while Jenn’s are in regular type. Last week, I once again picked Kristy Lee Cook to go home. But as soon as I saw that she had picked “God Bless the USA” as her song for the week, I knew my prediction was doomed. I have to hand it to her, that was a brilliant song choice given her fan base and no doubt contributed to her making it to this week. But this week is country week, with Dolly Parton. You may remember that Simon compared Kristy Lee to Dolly a couple weeks ago – though he added that she was like Dolly on helium. My point, however, is that this is Kristy Lee’s genre. As much as I want to predict she’ll go home, I can’t do it. I have to bow to the reality of the situation and acknowledge that she’ll be with us for another week. Jenn, do you agree? Kristy is absolutely safe this week, unfortunately. Even if she sings poorly, we’re almost guaranteed to have someone else do badly. She’s not going until at least next week. So if Kristy Lee will be staying, who won’t be? Last week, we saw Jason and Syesha in the bottom three. Both of them are good candidates to make return appearances. Both Davids appear safe for the time being, and I think Brooke will do well in this genre. I’m not so sure about Michael and Carly, though. And I think Ramiele could face danger as well. Frankly, if Ramiele’s fans hadn’t demonstrated their strength last week by keeping her out of the bottom three after a mediocre performance in the first slot, I’d predict her to be in the bottom three this time. But if they can support her through that, country week ought to be no problem for them. Michael may be riding high on his Queen performance from last week (even though I didn’t like it). So that leaves Carly. Carly is definitely facing some tough times. She was in the bottom three two weeks ago, and even though she was safe this week, that doesn’t mean she won’t be back in the bottom three. It’s going to come down to song choice for her. We know she can give a good performance, but can she pick the right country song? Now that I have my bottom three pick of Jason, Syesha, and Carly, who will be heading out the door? That’s a tough call. But I’m going to go with my gut and say Jason. He’s been on a downward slide and I expect country week could be the bottom for him. I don’t think Jason will be in the bottom three again, at least not anytime soon. I think he was only there last week because of his fans’ complacency. Now that they’ve seen what can happen when they don’t vote for him, they’ll step it up and make sure he’s safe. I think Michael, Ramiele, and Syesha will be in the bottom three this week, with either Ramiele or Syesha going home. Michael is running out of steam, and Syesha just doesn’t have the fans to guarantee her safety. Country week might be tough for both of them (and I can’t decide if the obvious choice of Syesha singing “I Will Always Love You” means she will or she won’t do it). However, Syesha has managed to save herself a couple of times already by turning out great performances right when she needed to. Michael may be in danger, but I don’t think he’ll be going home. Instead, I think Ramiele’s number is finally up. So there we have it. I say Jason leaves, with Syesha and Carly joining him at center-stage. And I think we’ll say goodbye to Ramiele, with Michael and Syesha also in the bottom three. We’ll find out Wednesday night how well we did!
