American Idol 7: Which Idol Will Fall Third?

by David Bloomberg & Jenn Brasler -- 03/25/2008
Kristy Lee Cook (right) stubbornly refuses to leave. Will David just as stubbornly continue to predict her American Idol demise? And what will substitute predictor Jenn have to say? Read on to find out what they foresee.

Sting7 is off this week, so we are welcoming Jenn Brasler as our special guest predictor. Just to make sure we don’t confuse anybody, David’s thoughts will be in boldface, as usual.

But this week, I’ll start it off. Once again, Kristy Lee Cook – or as I will now be referring to her, Kristyjaya – did not go home. Why must we continue to be tortured?! Last week, I vowed to keep predicting her as the one going home until she actually does go home and I’m sticking to it. The fact that she was still in the bottom three makes me think there is still hope for her to go home.

Ironically, I’m hoping Kristyjaya actually has a decent performance. Not great – because I don’t think it’s possible – but average. Because the better she does, the less likely her fans will dial ‘til their fingers bleed, knowing they have to save her.

Jenn, what do you think of her chances?

I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen with Kristyjaya. Now that we’re into the top ten, and everyone gets to go on tour, she could either try harder or just let her fans (however many of them there may be) do the work for her. I could see her holding on for another week (and another week and another week…) or going home at any time. Remember, last season Sanjaya and Haley both held in there for longer than anyone thought they would, and so far Kristyjaya has done the same, so it’s hard to predict if she’ll stick around or not. She’ll definitely be in the bottom three most – if not all – of the rest of the weeks she gets to stay.

As for the other two in the bottom three, I do not think we will see Carly there again. I’m not entirely sure why we saw her there last week. But it has been suggested to me by readers who saw my Why Amanda Lost column, that in addition to Amanda splitting votes with David Cook, she might have been doing likewise with Carly. I think this is a valid hypothesis, and so Amanda’s loss might be Carly’s gain.

I don’t think either of the two Davids are in any danger whatsoever. That leaves Chikezie, Jason, Michael, Ramiele, and Syesha. Ramiele has too strong a fan base to be in any danger right now. Jason is still apparently getting the pre-teen or teen girl vote – that’s the only explanation I have. I think Chikezie is going to pay for his chi-cheesy performance last week, and the tab will come due this week. Unfortunately, I also think Syesha will make a return appearance.

Jenn?

I agree. Jason seems to have enough fans to keep him safe for a long time. Ramiele has had so many warnings about stepping up her game that if she doesn’t, it will be her own fault. I think she’s smart enough to know that if she doesn’t really start showing her stuff, she’s going to lose support. Michael apparently has a lot of fans, though I’m not convinced his talent warrants them. I think he needs a trip to the bottom three to shake him up. I just don’t think it’ll come.

Syesha, however, is hard to pin down. I don’t think she has the fans to keep her around much longer, and if she hadn’t done well on “Yesterday,” I think she would have been in the bottom three again. Chikezie is in a tough position – he was absolutely saved by his performance of “She’s a Woman,” and I really don’t think he’s ever going to be able to recapture what he did there. That means from now on, he’s always going to be criticized for not being as good as… well, himself. We’ve seen what he can do, and he’s not going to be able to do it again. I think this week’s bottom three is an easy call: Chikezie, Syesha, and Kristy, with Syesha going home.

So there we have it. Both of us are picking Chikezie, Syesha, and Kristyjaya for the bottom three. The difference is that I’m stubbornly picking Kristy to go home while I’m picking Syesha.

We’ll find out Tuesday night how well we did!
