American Idol 7: Ramiele’s Photos “Racy” and “Risque” or Ridiculous?

Things are getting a bit ridiculous in the world of American Idol. Around the same time as we were finding out that David Hernandez was a stripper in a gay club, a few other websites were making a big deal out of “racy” photos of Ramiele Malubay. Except the problem is that it was really much ado about nothing – an indication that there are some people out there who will do anything to try to get attention and somehow link it to American Idol.

A website that covers celebrities (sorry, but I can’t bring myself to give the name here – they don’t deserve the additional publicity) tried to make a splash by saying they’d found “scandalous” pictures of Ramiele on a Facebook fan page. The problem is that there really isn’t much “scandalous” about these photos at all – unless you use a very different meaning of the word.

When Foxes On Idol writers saw the photos in question, the general sentiment was that they appeared more to be “goofy” photos – a young girl having some fun. Ironically, the website that tried to make us believe there was a scandal here even said themselves that the pictures showed Ramiele “goofing around with some girlfriends.” Well if she was just goofing around, how “scandalous” can they be? Make up your mind!

Then, this week, the same site claimed to have unearthed more “risqué” photos of Ramiele. “Risque”? Please. The photos barely merit a PG rating. One of them appears to show Ramiele putting her hand over a female coworker’s breast. But they are both fully dressed, as is the other coworker behind them. And because of the way a photo cannot really give a good three-dimensional image, I can’t really tell if Ramiele’s hand is really anywhere near the breast in question.

But even if it is – so what? As noted above, she was obviously just goofing off with some friends. This is not Frenchie posing for an adult website or even Antonella taking some somewhat naughty photos for her boyfriend. This was nothing.

Other parts of this story are even worse. A video portion of the website discusses some other pictures. The hostess at one time even says one photo has Ramiele “showing off her cleavage in a low-cut tank top.” Oh my God! The horror! A low-cut tank top! Why, she should be booted off the show immediately!

Give me a break. We’ve seen contestants wear more revealing outfits on the show! Indeed, as the photo at the top of this article shows, the outfit she wore to perform last week could qualify as "a low-cut tank top"!

This “scandal” is a non-issue. If the best you can do is a photo of a young lady in a tank top or with her hand perhaps posed on another girl’s chest while everybody is fully clothed, then it’s time to pack it up and find somebody else to pick on. There is no controversy here.
