Idol Chartwatch, November 20: Jordin Hits Top 20 and Moreby Donna Reynolds -- 11/20/2007
View Printable version of this article Idol Music News By my count there are now 70 people out there who can rightfully call themselves Idol alumni, and that’s only those who reached the top 12 (top 10 in Season 1). Is it any wonder, then, that companies are beginning to recognize the benefits of using former Idols to market their products? A couple of years ago, Dreyers put out a special line of American Idol ice cream, which was promoted by Idols from Season 5. Seemed like a good idea, and apparently one that they are taking to the next level. This time around, Edy’s (a division of Dreyers) will be offering a free compilation CD with the purchase of ice cream. The CD will feature former Idols, including George Huff, Chris Richardson, and Melinda Doolittle. No word on Chris or Melinda’s tracks, but George is contributing “Here With Me” from his upcoming album. This promotion will debut to coincide with the new American Idolseason early in 2008 and will run through May. This Week's Idols' Albums Charts Jay-Z’s American Gangster had a strong first week, selling around 433,000 copies to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200, while the Eagles had a strong second week, selling 356,000, coming in second. Garth Brooks and Chris Brown debut in third and fourth place, pushing Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride to #5. Carrie did outsell Britney’s Blackout, which drops to #7 in its second week. Carnival Ride is #5 on the Digital Album Chart, #6 on Internet Album sales, and #3 on the Country chart. Carrie’s Some Hearts celebrates its second anniversary this week by jumping up 12 spots to #55 on the Billboard 200. The album is #14 on the Country chart. Kellie Pickler’s Small Town Girl reenters the Billboard 200 at #144, most likely due to her powerful performance at the CMAs last week. The album also moves up the Country chart, ending up at #31. Here's how the rest of the Idol-related albums did this week:
This Week's Idols' Singles Charts Jordin Sparks' "Tattoo" hit the Top 20 of the Hot 100, coming in at #18. This is significant in that the Hot 100 is considered the chart. The timing of this couldn’t be better, as Jordin’s CD drops this week, and having a single in the top 20 is about the best promotional tool an album can get. “Tattoo” comes in at #43 on the Hot 100 Airplay list, #14 on the Pop 100, #14 on the Pop 100 Airplay list, #13 on Hot Digital Tracks and #14 on Hot Digital Songs. It enters the Adult Top 40 at #39. Carrie's "So Small" is up again, ending up at #21 on the Hot 100, #23 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, #45 on the Pop 100, #3 on the Country chart, #22 on Hot Digital Tracks and #25 on Hot Digital Tracks. "Before He Cheats" is #43 on the Hot 100, #38 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and #7 on the Adult Contemporary chart. It reenters Hot Digital Songs at #60. Daughtry's "Over You" is #23 on the Hot 100, #21 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart, #15 on the Pop 100, #11 on the Pop 100 Airplay list, #5 on the Adult Top 40, #25 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #28 on Hot Digital Tracks and #31 on the Hot Digital Songs charts. Daughtry's "Home" is #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #48 on the Hot 100, #29 on the Hot 100 Airplay and #44 on the Hot 100 Airplay list. "Crashed" is #26 on the Mainstream Rock chart. Elliott's "Wait for You" is #45 on the Hot 100, #32 on the Hot 100 Airplay, #29 on the Pop 100, #23 on the Pop 100 Airplay, #5 on the Adult Contemporary chart and #24 on the Dance Club chart. Bucky Covington's "It's Good to be Us" is #30 on the Hot Country Singles list, and Josh Gracin's, "We Weren't Crazy" is #46. Kellie Pickler’s “Things That Never Cross a Man’s Mind” is #33 on the Country chart. Fantasia's "When I See You" is #17 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart and #7 on the R&B Adult airplay list. "Only One U" is #60 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart and #31 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Adult Airplay listing. Her duet with Aretha Franklin, "Put You Up on Game," is #56 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles chart and #13 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Adult Airplay listing. Mandisa's single, "Only the World," is #13 on this week's Single chart, and Kimberley Locke's "Band of Gold" is #14 on the Adult Contemporary chart. And that's it for Chartwatch this week!
