View Printable version of this article Idol Music News Carrie Underwood marked yet another milestone last week. At 56 weeks and counting, “Before He Cheats” entered the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 list of the longest-charting songs in history. Now that’s a mouthful! The song can conceivably enter the top five of this list if it remains on the chart for another four weeks. The Idol 6 tour concluded September 23 in Manchester, NH, and now the real work begins. Jordin Sparks is headed to the studio to finish recording tracks for her CD, which is currently set to drop November 20. Blake’s first single, “What You Got to Lose,” which he co-wrote with Chris Richardson, will be released October 31. Blake’s album does not yet have a solid release date, but he hopes to have it out before the end of the year. Chris Richardson, who may be the “sleeper” from this year’s group, has been spending his off-days setting up his own career path, although he has not yet indicated that he’s signed any kind of deal. Meanwhile, Phil Stacey has signed with a “major” Nashville label and will be moving to Nashville where Melinda and Chris Sligh will be also be living. And there’s more good news for a Season 6 alum. LaKisha Jones will be making her Broadway debut in The Color Purple on Broadway on January 9. LaKisha will be the regular “church soloist” for the evening performances and will also play Sofia during the matinees. Chaka Khan is taking over the role of Sofia for the evening performances and BeBe Winans will be taking on the role of Harpo. Fantasia, who has done a remarkable job as Celie, will leave the cast January 6. No replacement has been named as of yet. This Week’s Idols’ Albums Charts Reba McEntire’s Reba Duets, featuring “Because of You” with Kelly Clarkson, sold 301,000 copies last week and debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200. It is also number 1 on the country chart, her tenth album to top that chart. The album also includes duets with LeAnn Rimes, Ronnie Dunn, Rascal Flatts, Trisha Yearwood, Carole King, Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill, Faith Hill, Justin Timberlake, and Don Henley. Eleven new albums debut in the top 20 this week, causing a drop for all the Idols on the charts. But other than Carrie’s Some Hearts, which drops from #48 to #61, the other top sellers actually did pretty well exponentially. In fact, Kelly’s My December only drops six spots (#71 to #77), while Elliott Yamin drops ten (#77 to #87). Daughtry is down 11 spots (#21 to #32) and is the highest non-compilation Idol CD on the Billboard 200. Paul Potts, winner of Britain’s Got Talent, debuts on the charts this week. One Chance enters the Billboard 200 at #30 and is #11 on the Internet Album sales listing. Here’s how it all shook out:
