Idol Chartwatch, February 3: Bring it On!

by Donna Reynolds -- 02/03/2006
This week, there are several new Idol-related CDs added to the mix, and they are charting well. But new music releases have caused some old standards to plummet. Find out who survived and who didn’t. It’s all in here!

What a difference a week makes. Last week, the charts seemed to be stagnant. But a flood of new releases has hit the charts, and some of the Idols have taken a hit as a result. Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts dropped out of the top five this week, ending up at #7 this on the Billboard 200. It also dropped to #2 on the Country Chart and fell off the Internet Sales and Top Digital charts altogether.

Kelly’s Breakaway dropped to #19 on the Billboard 200, the only chart on which it appears. INXS’ Switch remained at #86 on the Billboard 200 and fell off the Top Rock Albums chart.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the news isn’t good for Bo Bice fans. After moving up last week, The Real Thing plunged 32 spots on the Billboard 200, ending up at #76. Ouch. It dropped to 23 on the Top Rock Albums.

Josh Gracin’s self-titled album dropped three spots to #52 on the Country Chart. Nashville Star’s Miranda Lambert’s Kerosene remained at #11 on the Country chart, and is up ten spots to #49 on the Billboard 200.

On the Gospel chart, George Huff’s Miracles is down two spots, ending up at #32.

Marty Casey and Lovehammers is this week’s big winner. Marty, of course, was runner-up on last summer’s Rock Star: INXS and he and his band have been opening for INXS on tour. The CD broke into the Billboard 200 at #67. It was #8 on the Digital Sales chart, #2 on the Internet Album Sales chart, and #18 on the Top Rock Albums chart. Good job, Marty.

Here’s how the Idol-related compilation albums did this week:

  • Now That’s What I Call Music #20 (Now 20) featuring Kelly Clarkson’s “Behind These Hazel Eyes” is finally losing steam. This week, it dropped to #25 on the Billboard 200, and #3 on the Top Compilation chart. Will this one ever die? Who buys these anyway?
  • Carlos Santana’s All That I Am featuring Bo Bice’s “Brown Skin Girl” dropped to #92 on the Billboard Top 200.
  • So Amazing: An All-Star Tribute to Luther Vandross featuring Fantasia’s “Til My Baby Comes Home” dropped one spot to #16 on the Top Compilation chart.
  • Disneymania 3: Music Stars Sing Disney ...Their Way! featuring Clay’s “Proud of Your Boy” and Kimberley Locke’s “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” dropped to #25 on the Top Compilation Album.
  • The Gospel, which features Tamyra Gray’s “Now Behold The Lamb,” rose two spots to #111 on the Billboard 200, and is #34 on the Hot R&B chart. The album was #3 on the Gospel chart this week, and #2 on the Top Compilation chart.
  • 2006 Grammy Nominees, which features Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone,” entered the Billboard 200 at #14. It was #2 on the Top Compilation chart
  • Wow Gospel 2006, featuring George Huff’s “Brighter Day” entered the Gospel Chart at #19.

Now on to the Idol-related singles:

Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus, Take the Wheel” rose one spot to #26 on the Hot 100, and was down eight spots to #51 on the Pop 100. The single was #1 on Hot Country singles, #28 on Hot Digital Tracks, #6 on the Hot Christian AC chart, and #32 on Hot Digital Songs. “Some Hearts” down one spot to #29 on the Adult Top 40.

Carrie’s first single, “Inside Your Heaven,” was #15 on the overall single sales chart, and #1 on the Country Sales chart. Bo’s version of “Inside Your Heaven/Vehicle” dropped two spots to #13 on the Single Sales chart.

Kelly’s “Because of You” dropped one spot to #16 on the Hot 100, and is #10 on the Pop 100, #10 on the Hot 100 airplay chart, and #5 on the Pop 100 Airplay chart. It’s #43 on Hot Digital Tracks, #38 on the Hot Digital Songs chart, and #2 on the Adult Top 40. The song is #5 on the Adult Contemporary Chart.

“Since U Been Gone” is #49 on both the Hot Digital Songs chart and #48 on the Hot Digital Tracks chart. “Gone” is up seven spots to #84 on the Pop 100, and is #45 on the Pop 100 Airplay chart. “Walk Away” rose again, up to #56 on the Billboard 200, #26 on the Pop 100, #43 on the Hot 100 Airplay, and #26 on the Pop 100 Airplay chart.

Fantasia’s collaboration with Lyfe Jennings, “Hypothetically,” remains at #50 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart. INXS’ “Pretty Vegas” rose one spot to #8 on the Adult Top 40 chart.

Miranda Lambert’s single, “Kerosene,” is #16 on the Hot Country Chart and #71 on the Hot 100. George Huff’s, “A Brighter Day,” bounced up four spots to #21 on the Hot Gospel Tracks chart.
