Corey Claims ‘Explicit’ Evidence, But He’s Losing the P.R. Battleby David Bloomberg -- 05/13/2005
View Printable version of this article Apparently, Corey Clark isn’t happy. Maybe we haven’t been paying enough attention to him. Maybe he can’t go a full week without a headline. Whatever the reason, he’s back again. I have noted recently that Corey’s allegations have been losing, rather than gaining, ground in the evidence department. So if Corey was going to come forward again, he would hopefully have something to show us, right? Wrong. Well, wrong unless we are a “governmental agency that launches an investigation stemming from his claims.” Yes, Corey claims to have new evidence that apparently wasn’t aired on Primetime Live. The evidence, his lawyer claims, is “explicit” and “incriminating.” Explicit? As in potentially an “explicit” videotape? He didn’t say, but that seems to be the implication. But he has no plans to reveal it anyway. Unless he hears from that government agency, that is. What government agency? Is there really a government agency that cares about Corey Clark and Paula Abdul? What is this, Idolgate? Please. To add to the lumps that Corey is taking, an article on Las Vegas City Life’s website quotes his former manager, David Wallace, as saying his allegations against Paula are “desperate and manipulative” and that embellishing the truth to get his way “is Corey’s modus operandi. Ouch. Wallace had signed Corey to a contract while Corey was still young. In fact, Corey even moved in with Wallace and his family, so Wallace knew him well. To add to the misery, Wallace also pointed out that Corey was actually still “under managerial contract” with him when Corey was on Idol, which is a violation of their rules, so “apparently he lied to the producers.” Finally, in other news Simon Cowell appeared on a couple daytime shows where he said that Paula would not be fired or punished by AI. So Corey is definitely looking like the loser of this battle so far. But, honestly, I think he deserves it. The more that comes out, the less likely it looks like Corey has been telling the whole truth. Maybe there is a small kernel of truth there – as I’ve said before, maybe Paula did give him more help than some of the other contestants – but anything that might have come out of that has probably been lost by all the other allegations that have simply not held water. If there was a story here, I believe that story has been lost. Paula has still not specifically come out with a denial of Corey’s claims, other than basically calling him a liar. However, at this point it seems she doesn’t have to. Fans appear to support her, the producers seem to support her, the other previous and current contestants seem to support her. She can move forward. But as we see with Corey’s latest claim, he can’t. He apparently needs the headlines. Maybe if he truly has “explicit” evidence and shows it, he’ll get the headlines again. But playing games won’t get them for him anymore. David Bloomberg is the Editor of Foxes On Idol, and can be reached at RNO@pobox.com.
