American Idol 4: Which Idol Will Fall Eighth?by Phil Kural and David Bloomberg -- 05/03/2005
View Printable version of this article This week, we’re going to do things a little differently. First, Phil will give his thoughts and predictions. Then, rather than interrupting Phil, David will share his afterwards: Phil: It's been said that every season of American Idol will have its shocking moments. Constantine being sent home last week was one of them. Personally, I wasn't a Constantine fan, but I do understand where his fans were coming from, and deep down, he was a great performer. But did he have the Idol voice? I don't think so. Last week, I went down a list and stated why each person would be safe or not safe. As usual, I said that Scott would be going home, and of course, he wasn't even in the bottom three. What does that mean? I'm an idiot? Na, not yet. I don't have a clue what I'm talking about? Sometimes, but I don't think that's it either. I think what it has to do with is people's need to see Scott succeed. Indeed, he does have talent, or he wouldn't be where he is right now. But is he the best? I wouldn’t say so, nor would I say he had more talent than some of the Idols to leave the show so far. See: Turner, Nadia. Where do we go from here, though? Which Idol will be the eighth to fall? Well, we can safely assume that Ryan is going to only point out the bottom two this week. I firmly believe that Carrie, Vonzell, and Bo have each earned their spot in the final four, and I think all three of them will be safe, and if they aren't safe, none of them will be the actual one to bid us a farewell. This leaves us with Anthony and Scott. Which one deserves to be in the final four? A case can be made for Anthony, who has improved from week to week. His bottom three showing last week could mean that his fans (and he has many) could rally around him to keep him around for another week. I think that will be the case. Anthony has shown that he is willing to take what the judges have to say and apply it to his song choice and voice. I think he will make the final four, but that might be as far as he gets barring a spectacular performance this week, but I think his breakout performance was last week, and that ended him in the bottom three. I'm curious to see how this will play out for him. When looking at Scott, I'm a little more confused. I'm not even sure what to say. When I think he's safe, he ends up at the bottom. When I think he's going home, he's not even in the bottom three. Is that to say that if I say he's safe he'll finally go home? Oh, if wishes could come true. Many say that I have it out for Scott. Not true at all – I just think that the other four in the competition are simply better than he is, and deserve to be there more. Of course, I'm going to say that Scott will be the next Idol to go home, but let me say that I wouldn't be shocked at all if it was Anthony and Scott was able to hang around for another week. Let's be honest though – it's getting to the point where the final four will have to sing, and someone is going to shockingly be sent home. For some reason, I'm thinking that it's going to be Vonzell this year, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Theoretically though, Scott should be the next Idol to fall. The only way he can be saved now is if his fan base really kicks it into high gear. Many people are blaming him, the same way they blamed John Stevens, Nikki McKibbin, Jasmine Trias, and Josh Gracin for their favorites going home. These are the same people that watch the show, but don't vote. Don't blame performers for having a fan base. Everyone is entitled to like who they want. I don't blame Scott for anything. In my opinion though, it's time for him to go, if we are basing this on the facts. Be honest – his performance last week was not the best. Carrie, Vonzell and Bo have all shown that they are amazing performers through their consistency. Anthony has grown, and is probably one of the most improved this season. Now would be the best time for Scott to bow out gracefully. View Printable version of this article
