In American Idol’s first season, Justin Guarini was simply oozing star-quality, but the road to Hollywood is littered with shattered dreams. It doesn’t look like you’ll find Justin’s among them. He’s taken the offensive!

Rumors had been flying for awhile that Justin did, in fact, land another deal, but nothing was announced publicly. However, Justin confirmed on On Air with Ryan Seacrest last month that his association with 19 Entertainment and record label RCA has ended. Justin holds no ill will.

"I had a great conversation with Simon Fuller," said Guarini. "We ended things on great terms, I just felt it was time to move on. They did so much for me; I wouldn't be sitting here if it weren't for them.

Justin doesn‘t feel quite so warmly for RCA though, "I had to find out that I was dropped from an inch-by-inch article in Us magazine, then it was confirmed by a Saturday Night Live skit.” he says with some incredulousness. “I didn't get a fax, a phone call, email or anything."

Guarini says he knew he had to take his career into his own hands. It was time for him to start making his own decisions if he was going to reach the level of success that so many foresaw for him. "It was really tough at first, but out everything bad comes something really great," he continued. "Right now I've signed with Benny Medina, a well-known manager who's worked with J-Lo, Will Smith, Ricky Martin, and Brandy.

Benny Medina gained his initial fame with the Will Smith, then Fresh Prince, television vehicle, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in 1990, which remains in heavy syndication to this day. Quickly rising to the level of the Hollywood elite, Medina has served as executive producer of recent movie hits, The Fighting Temptations and Maid In Manhattan. As Guarini mentioned, Medina is chiefly responsible for guiding the careers of Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez from moderate successes to superstars.

Medina and Lopez recently had a messy, plate-throwing split. Lopez fired Medina as her manager, allegedly at Ben Affleck’s insistence, and neither Lopez or Medina have had a kind word to say about each other since!

"I've got such blessed company now. I've also got a new agent Don Buchwald (Howard Stern), so out of all that seemingly bad stuff, which I kind of really chalk up to experience, I've got an amazing team of people around me. I'm back!"

Guarini does not plan to limit himself to music, he seeking also seeking acting gigs, "Right now it's pilot season and we're aggressively going after a network show, then I'm taking the next 6-8 months to write my album. We're going to make it really authentic, something that comes right from my heart and take some time with it, which really wasn't available last time because of the American Idol machine."

That same Idol machine that seems to have let Justin down may still provide some stroke. American Idol ratings are showing zero drop-off from the Clay-Ruben wars and, as entertainment goes, anyone associated with Idol is hot property. You may not have seen the last of Justin Guarini!
