Album sales are starting to finally level out after the holidays – the #1 album, by OutKast, had declining sales but #2, by Sheryl Crow, and #3, by Evanescence, increased. More importantly to Idol fans, Ruben Studdard’s Soulful – which is shown as being certified platinum – saw a 6% increase in sales this week to 67,000 copies and surged back up three spots from #8 to #5 as albums by Toby Keith, Josh Groban, and Alicia Keys fell in his wake. Meanwhile, Ruben holds at the #1 spot on the R&B/Hip-Hop Album Chart.

As far as his single, “Sorry 2004,” it moved up one spot to #19 on the Hot 100 chart. Nobody has passed him this week, meaning others above him could start falling and paving the way for a further climb on his part. The single is also up from #9 to #6 on the R&B/Hip Hop chart.

Clay Aiken’s Measure of a Man album reversed course this week and moved up two spots to #35. “Invisible” sticks it out again at #11 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

In non-Idol, but still reality TV, news, Nashville Star winner Buddy Jewell’s newest single, “Sweet Southern Comfort,” hit the Hot 100 at #73. And that song is up from #17 to #14 on the Hot Country chart.

Jessica Simpson, of MTV’s Newlyweds, took a big leap from #28 to #16 on the album chart with In This Skin as the second season of her show began and may have helped propel sales. And her single, “With You,” is up eight spots to #24 while also gaining two spots to #7 on the Top 40 chart.

Foxes On Idol will, of course, continue to keep you up to date on the charts as we watch to see if Ruben’s sales continue to increase and if Clay stages a comeback.
