Reports on Kelly Clarkson in ‘Starship Troopers’ Sequel Incorrectby David Bloomberg -- 04/23/2003
View Printable version of this article Contrary to reports that you might have seen, Kelly Clarkson will not be playing a lead role in the sequel to the movie Starship Troopers. The official cast list came out recently and apparently somebody got “Kelly Carlson” mixed up with “Kelly Clarkson.” (The Internet Movie Database only shows a couple of movies for Kelly Carlson, including a motorcycle gang member in 3000 Miles to Graceland.) It’s unclear how things got mixed up, but then Zap2it.com reported yesterday that Kelly Clarkson “has singed on to play one of the leads” (“singed” on? A Freudian slip?) for Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation. The site credited Moviehole.net with the information. However, in checking it out, I found that they actually had a post dated yesterday that corrected the misinformation (I don’t know if they had the incorrect information posted first and have subsequently deleted it). When I first saw the news, I thought it was rather odd – why would Kelly sign on for a movie like Starship Troopers when she had just released an album and should finally be concentrating on her singing without worrying about doing a movie. Not to mention that even if she wanted to further her acting career, this type of movie is not exactly one I can easily see her in. (Not that there’s anything wrong with it – I enjoyed the first one, but it doesn’t exactly scream “starring the American Idol.”) In case you were wondering, Moviehole.com now lists the cast as: Billy Brown, Richard Burgi, Kelly Carlson, Cy Carter, Sandrine Holt, Ed Lauter, J.P. Manoux, Lawrence Monoson, Colleen Porch, Drew Powel, Ed Quinn, Jason-Shane Scott, and Brenda Strong. The site also lists other info about some of the actors. But none of them were ever on American Idol and I rather doubt there will be much singing going on. Screaming, yes. Singing, no.
