American Idol 9: Which Idol Will Fall Fourth?by Sting7 & David Bloomberg -- 04/06/2010
View Printable version of this article Didi Benami didn’t look like she was having much fun in her Idol campaign, despite how many times she told us she was. In the end, her dismissal was a relief – for us and for her. It was uncomfortable watching her get slaughtered by the judges after clearly giving the best she had week after week. Her best, though, just wasn’t enough. I (David – remember, when the text is red, it’s me) am not actually sure that was her best. But I won’t rehash it here – go to Why Didi Lost for the whole story. I didn’t even put her in the bottom three, let alone predicting her exit. I saved that for Tim, who continues to defy the odds (and logic). But I figured him and Katie for the bottom three, so I have to be satisfied with that. I, on the other hand, did put Didi in the bottom and, after the performances, even noted that I wouldn’t be surprised if she left. However, I went with my hopes and also predicted Tim would be the one to actually leave us. Looking forward at our safe contestants, things have changed a bit. Crystal Bowersox, Michael Lynche, and Casey James continue to tick all the appropriate boxes. Joining the safe ranks, instead of dwelling one notch below, is now Lee Dewyze. Also safe, but perhaps showing some chinks in her armor, is Siobhan Magnus. Siobhan can hit all the notes, we know that, but her confidence has been badly shaken. It all comes down to whether she can step up to the pressure or crumble beneath it. No disagreements here on these four. I do worry about Siobhan, and one more performance like the one we saw last week might drop her out of the ranks of the safe next week, but we’ll address that if and when it happens. That only leaves us with four contestants to examine. Andrew Garcia has finally hit one out of the park. And it was a shot significant enough that his fan base will surely reward him – plus, Andrew may have gained some new voters. He’s certainly not at the level of the previously mentioned five contestants, but he is the class of those who are left. Aaron Kelly seems to have plateaued. Around the second week of the top twelve, he had started stepping up his game, but now he is stuck at that level. He’s never been in the bottom three, but that may be about to change. Katie Stevens is spending a lot of time in the bottom three these days. Katie seems to be getting her feet under her, but as I mentioned in my Ranking the Idols article, it may be too little, too late. At this stage, the contestants’ fan bases should be firmly established and working diligently to keep their favorites afloat. It appears Katie’s fan base may be out of ammunition. Unless something drastic happens, Katie’s last week will be either this week or next week! Once again, I can’t find anything to disagree with here. I tried and tried, but what Sting said just makes too much sense. I do think Katie has the capability to knock one out of the park and thus save herself for an additional week or two, so that makes her something of a wildcard at this point. So that leaves The Great Houdini himself, Teflon Tim Urban. During his version of “Sweet Love,” I slipped into a daydream so deep, I forgot where I was when I came out of it! That’s not the sort of thing that would make me reach for a phone… let alone ever want to hear him sing again. Ever. Seriously, Tim should be gone. He should have been gone weeks ago. He should have never even been in the top 24, er, 25. It’s a bit strange to think that he got more votes than Alex Lambert or Toddrick Hall now, isn’t it? Unfortunately, we obviously have this season’s Sanjaya. Maybe I’ll just call him Timjaya from now on. The question in my mind is how long he can continue to torture us. My suspicion: At least another week. To pick a bottom three, I definitely want to include Tim because a bottom three without Tim would be like a year without Christmas. I think Katie is also a sure lock for the bottom. I will also include Aaron or Andrew. I think Andrew has finally got some momentum going again, while I sense Aaron may be losing it, so I will put Aaron in the bottom three. That means Tim, Katie, and Aaron. Going home this week will be… Katie! Surprise! David? I’m also going to say Tim will be in the bottom three but will survive yet again. If he is sent packing, I will shed no tears at being wrong! As I said earlier, Katie is something of a wildcard, but that’s the chance we take in predicting results before a note is sung each week. So I’m going to go along with Sting’s prediction, right down the line. I know it’s a bit more boring than when we disagree, but that’s just the way things have lined up this week. So it will be Tim in his usual bottom three spot, joined by Aaron and Katie – with Katie saying goodbye. Now you can follow Foxes On Idol & RealityNewsOnline on Twitter and on Facebook!
