We'll Be The Judge of That! - Canadian Idol 3, July 19: The Top Ten!

Yasmin: While I love this song, I did not love Josh's version of it. The dude is so freaking strange. I don't get it - what are the judges hearing that are making them fall over their feet praising him? All I heard was nasal, mumbled weirdness, coupled with a pretentiously affected performance style. I'd thought earlier this season that Josh might be this season's Jacob, but maybe he's actually this season's Jenny Gear - you either love him and think he's an "artist", or hate him and think he's not only overrated, but also missing a few screws somewhere. Bloody thumbs way down.

Casey LeBlanc, “From This Moment” (Shania Twain)

Brian:Casey started out at a really rapid tempo, and showed more nerves than even Daryl has. It got no better, and in fact, it was pretty darn painful to watch. She struggled with volume, and… well, most everything. At least she didn’t forget her lyrics or fall off stage. I will be kind and go no further, but this performance was… legendary. Can the power voters of NB (and points east) save her, or did Emily get an unexpected reprieve? I dunno, there were more people in the audience than where Casey lives.

Yasmin: Ouch. I like Casey, and she showed potential in her Top 32 performance, but nerves did her in this week. This was an almost flat-out choke. As she began to sing, it was clear that she was very nervous, and though she seemed to settle into it a bit as the song went on, she never seemed completely comfortable. It just wasn't fully there. I hope her fans were on the ball this week - she deserves a chance to redeem herself and show what she's really made of, and it would be a shame if this performance was the end of the road for her.

Final Thoughts

Brian: Regular readers will know I haven’t been overwhelmed by what I’ve seen this year. Well, that’s SO over! I attended the show live and let me say two things: (1) kudos to Sass’s wardrobe coordinator; (2) there were seven encouragingly strong performances this week!

I feel Rex and Suzi distanced themselves from the field this week. At the other end, predictions seem easy: Emily, Daryl and Casey didn’t measure up and will sit in the Evil Chairs. Daryl will get the first reprieve, and Casey will be going home first.

Yasmin: While there were some pleasant surprises and a few competitors managed to step up their game for our first night in the big theatre, my overall reaction was pretty much the same as what I felt throughout the Top 32. It was safe, it was mediocre, it was a bit above average at best. This was not CI2, where we had Kalan breaking out of his shell with a blistering "Born to Be Wild," Theresa delivering a heartfelt rendition of "Good Mother," and Kaleb putting his own unique twist on "Everything I Do". This was... well, it felt like American Idol, and for me, that's not cool.

So, who will be the first to pack their bags and leave the Idol mansion after a very short stay? I think our two first performers of the night, Aaron Walpole and Emily Vinette, will be headed to the Bottom Three together, and either Casey LeBlanc or Daryl Brunt will join them. In the end, I think Emily has seen the end of her journey, and deservedly so - while she'd make a fine winner of a high school talent competition, she's not ready for the big leagues.

Conclusions: It looks like Emily, Daryl, and Casey are headed to the big chairs if our judges have anything to say about it! They do, however, disagree on whether Casey or Emily will be the one to go. Who is right? Tune in to Canadian Idol and keep your browser locked to RealityNewsOnline and FoxesOnIdol to find out!
